About the Programme

It is common for families in Singapore to entrust their foreign domestic workers (FDWs) with household chores and to provide caregiving support to young children. Knowing that our households and children are well looked after by a skilled FDW will give parents like you peace of mind.

The Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE), together with our partners, NTUC LearningHub and SEED Institute, in consultation with KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, have developed this two-module programme in “Responsive Caregiving for Young Children”. Module 1 assesses the competencies of FDWs in basic housekeeping, and Module 2 is designed to equip FDWs with skills to look after young children (18 months to 6 years old).

Module 1: CDE-NTUC LearningHub Skills Certification

An 8-hour certification programme on cleaning, cooking, and ironing. A joint certificate of completion by CDE and NTUC LearningHub will be presented to the course participant who fulfils the assessment and attendance criteria.

The training venue is at 1 Kung Chong Road, Level 2, Singapore 159139 (within the classrooms of The Master’s International Singapore). Directions to the training venue can be downloaded here.

Module 2: CDE-SEED Institute Responsive Caregiving for Young Children (18 months to 6 years old)

A 21-hour programme on:

• Developmental milestones for young children

• Role of a caregiver

• Safety, health & hygiene practices at home

• How to spot common illnesses in young children

• How to interact with young children

• Foster positive relationship between caregivers & children

• Effective communications between caregivers and family members

• How to maintain self-care and mindfulness

A certificate of participation by SEED Institute will be presented to the course participant who fulfils the assessment and attendance criteria. Please note that this module will take place over three days, with the last day requiring the compulsory attendance of another adult caregiver to the child. Please refer to the FAQs below for details.

The training venue is at:

SEED Institute

229 Mountbatten Road,

Mountbatten Square #02-34, Singapore 398007

Directions to the training venue can be downloaded here.

Through this programme, CDE hopes to better support Singaporean families with their caregiving needs for their young children (18 months to 6 years old) by upskilling their foreign domestic workers (FDWs).

Participants who sign up for this programme are required to achieve 100% attendance and complete the assessment criteria.
